Casey Family Foundation Report Highlights the BSFT Model

In 2013, New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) began an innovative social welfare program, the first of its kind in the United States. The Case Planners hired to assess and prevent child abuse and neglect among troubled families in New York City were replaced by Evidence Based therapists. ACS funded and implemented 11 Evidence Based Programs for children and families and the BSFT model was one of them. The Casey Foundation completed a report of the first 3 years of implementation of Evidence Based Programs (EBPs) demonstrating success. By procuring EBPs, ACS has accelerated its decades’ long trend of decreasing reports of maltreatment and placement of children in foster care. BSFT was the only EBP highlighted in the Casey Foundation report. The BSFT institute is grateful for it collaboration with ACS and all of its providers who implement the BSFT program in all 5 boroughs of New York City. To date, thousands of families have received the BSFT intervention and their maladaptive family interactions have been transformed into healthy relationships and children have been prevented from being placed outside of their home.
